intel_corp: I can't speak for Ying, but I've started encountering the same problem. A few days ago, I could log into and work on Edison from my laptop (a macbook pro running OS X 10.11.4). Today I can't. I get the same error message:
"The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer."
I've tried a fresh Edison, right out of the package, and started getting this same error message again as soon as it was flashed.
I've been working with MANY different microcontrollers over the last few days, so it's possible one of the others blew up the drivers that the Edison needed.
Since reading this, I've tried installing the FTDI drivers, but found the instructions vague. Could you clarify a bit?
- There are two different FTDI drivers: VCP and D2XX. And under 10.11, they're known to step on each others' toes. Which of the two does Edison need?
- If the Edison needs the D2XX drivers, which ones do you recommend? I see two to choose from: 10.4 and 10.5-10.7. I'm assuming these refer to the version numbers of OS X they should go with. There doesn't seem to be an option for the current version of OS X, 10.11.
- Other than drivers, what else could this be?
Edited to add:
At this moment, I've uninstalled the D2XX driver (and helper) and I can see cu.usbmodemXXXX and cu.usbserial-XXXXXX in the /dev list.
AND HEY, after many reboots, and much poking about, I seem to be able to log into the Edison from the terminal again. I still can't see the Edison as a hard drive, but I can log in again. PROGRESS!
